Ilosone is used to prevent and treat infections in many different parts of the body, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, diphtheria, intestinal amebiasis, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, Legionnaire’s disease, pertussis, and syphilis. This medicine is also used to prevent recurrent attacks of rheumatic fever in patients who have had an allergic reaction to penicillin or sulfa drugs. Erythromycin belongs to the class of medicines known as macrolide antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take this medicine on
an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after food. If this medicine upsets your stomach, take with food
or milk. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not skip doses or
stop your medicine early even if you feel better. Do not stop taking except on your doctor's advice.
Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is less than four hours to your next dose, take only that dose and skip the missed dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
